Athletics

The athletics program at Walnut Creek includes a wide variety of interscholastic sports for both boys and girls in 7th and 8th grade.  There may also be opportunities for 6th graders to participate in intramural sports.

All students must have an annual sports physical exam on file (see form below) in the school office prior to participating in any of the sports offered through the school.  Academic and behavior requirements must be met to be eligible to compete.  Our assistant principal, Kyle Pipkin, serves as the WCMS Athletic Director.

KLMSL ATHLETIC PHILOSOPHY

We believe that:

  • The middle school age athletes are at a unique stage of development.
  • Development, being able to learn from experience, making choices about future sports involvement, and having a positive learning experience are important priorities.
  • Participation for as many youngsters as possible is desired.
  • The program emphasis should be directed toward skill mastery, team concepts, cooperation with peers, and the fun of involvement and fair play.
  • Athletics are an extension of the classroom.

The learning outcomes we seek for our athletes:
