NEWS ITEM #3:  TURN DOWN THE TUNES!
Listening to a personal music player (like an iPod or an MP3 player) at a high volume for as little as one hour a day for five years can cause permanent hearing loss, says the European Union Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks.  How to stop the damage?  "Your ears adapt to high noise levels during the day, so stick to the volume level they can handle in the morning," says audiologist Robert Novak, Ph.D., head of speech, language and hearing sciences at Purdue University.  "Earbuds that fit snugly also help."
