Sinking Fund

Walled Lake Consolidated Schools' facilities are in good repair as a result of the Building and Site Sinking Fund (BSSF). The district has been able to complete construction, repair and renovation projects annually, with Board of Education approval, because of the continuous support from our local community in 2004, 2012 and 2022.Did you know? From 2004 thru 2021, the Building and Site Sinking Fund has generated approximately $37,664,687 to maintain our facilities. The Building and Site Sinking Fund allows the district to keep the more than 2.4 million square feet of educational space and 754 acres of grounds and property in optimal condition for the thousands of students and community members that use the schools on a daily basis. Some examples of projects that the Building and Site Sinking Fund covers are:

  • Resurface and repair more than one million square feet of deteriorated parking lots and replace nearly 200 parking lot lighting features.
  • Replace roughly one million square feet of deteriorated roofing.
  • Repair and replace dozens of old boilers, chillers and ventilation systems in the schools.
  • Replace more than 200 damaged doors.
  • Replace over one half million square feet of deteriorated carpet in numerous classrooms and corridors in the district.
  • Replace more than 200,000 square feet of cracked and broken sidewalks.
