Kalon Humphries (Western '12)

Kalon Humphries is a 2012 graduate of Walled Lake Western. While at Western, he participated in football and powerlifting.

After high school, Humphries went to Adrian College for a year and graduated from University of Michigan in 2016. He also received a Diversity and Inclusion graduate certificate from University of Kentucky.

Kalon's football coaching career started at Walled Lake Western in 2015, where he coached the 2015 and 2016 seasons. In 2017, he spent the spring at Independence Community College before accepting a role as the assistant defensive line coach at Morehead State University. From February 2018 to March 2020, he had the chance to work at Iowa State while Walled Lake Western alumnus Robert Hudson was part of the program. Humphries then moved on to Heidelberg University, just a few hours away in Tiffin, OH, where he went 12-3 over a 15-game span. They played an abridged spring 2021 season and then a full 10-game fall slate later that year. Heidelberg was his first chance to be a full-time position coach at the college level.

In February 2022, Humphries accepted a job at the University of Kentucky as a Defensive Grad Student Coach/Assistant Defensive Line Coach and had the honor of competing in the SEC for two seasons. Since March 2024, Humphries has been a part of the Indianapolis Colts organization as the Tony Dungy Defensive Fellow, which is a role that allows him to be a full-time coaching staff member for a full year. He works with the defensive line as an Assistant Defensive Line coach. He is hopeful that this job is an invaluable springboard to the next move in his career.

In his free time, Humphries enjoys spending time with his wife, Lexi, watching a movie or binging the latest show, taking a walk, or trying out a new restaurant.

"With coaching taking up so much of my time, when I do get time to myself, it's a real priority for me to spend it being intentional with my wife and then finding some time to stay connected with family and friends," said Humphries. He and his wife currently reside in Zionsville, IN and they look forward to welcoming several Walled Lake friends when the Lions come to town in November.

Humphries will forever cherish his time at Western. Mr. Blackney, Ms. Tate, Mrs. Knapp and Mrs. Terry are just a few of the teachers that he always thinks about when it comes to the great times of high school.

"Having teachers empower you to be yourself and push you to be better is what it is all about," said Humphries. "More often than not, your teachers have your best interest at heart so accept the teaching, respect the authority, and good things will come."

He is still connected with some of those teachers today.
