Meagan Dullack (Northern '10)

Meagan Dullack is a 2010 graduate of Walled Lake Northern HS. While at Northern, she was a 2x State and 3x National Champion majorette and a member of the multi-award-winning Northern Knights Marching Band. She was also a member of the Twirl-M’s Baton Twirling Team in Walled Lake in which she won many State and National Championships.

Meagan attended Central Michigan University (CMU) where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Photojournalism and Apparel Merchandising, graduating in 2014. While choosing her program, the Dean of Students commended her on forging her own path so she could graduate with the skills and degree that would best fit her career aspirations, as those two degrees are not normally combined.

While attending CMU, she was a member of the Co-Ed National Honor Fraternity, Phi Sigma Pi,  the Fashion Association of Merchandising and Design and the Central Press Photographers Association. She was awarded the Stage Coordinator position for the annual THREADS Fashion Show and also became the Photo Editor of the campus newspaper. She earned many awards for her coverage of the CMU Football team from the Michigan Press Photographers Association.

After college, she went on to be a photographer for high school sports for the Oakland Press and MI Prep Zone. She then worked as the executive assistant to the owner of a small locally owned apparel manufacturing company where she handled countless accounts from well established brands like Moosejaw Mountaineering to local entrepreneur startup brands. In early 2018, she started her career in the furniture industry earning a position as an Assistant Buyer at Art Van Furniture. Then in September 2020, she was offered an Assistant Buying position at Raymour & Flanigan Furniture & Mattress in New York. Raymour & Flanigan is the largest furniture retailer in the Northeast, with over 150 locations, and they are the seventh largest in the country.

She was brought onboard to build the kids and nursery program from the ground up. In October 2020, after 10 months with the company, she was promoted to the Buyer of Kids & Nursery furniture along with Home Decor, Lighting & Rugs where she runs her own department and brings thousands of new products to their E-Commerce Platform every month.

In her personal time, she enjoys exploring New York, including going to the Adirondack Mountains in the summer. Additionally, she likes to make weekend trips back to Michigan to see her friends and family. She says “Michigan will always be my home and the place that made me who I am today.”

Meagan would like to thank the countless educators and members of the community who have supported her and helped her throughout her journey. She said: “Mr. Kowalczyk (or Mr. K) knows how to make the content and coursework interesting, fun and relatable. Dr. Stanton shows an incredible amount of patience in his approach to teaching a complex subject. Ms. Ramin and Mrs. Ritter were standout educators in helping me realize my future in the arts, Mrs. Hulliberger taught me the importance of dedication and discipline. Miss Muscaro, my  baton twirling coach for over 10 years, taught me life skills that are just as, if not more, important than the skills of the sport.”

Her advice to students today would be to never stop pursuing your dreams and aspirations. Just because a path doesn’t exist, doesn’t mean you can’t create one yourself. She also encourages students to get out and experience life, don’t let fear keep you from trying something new. Fill up your days with activities, clubs, organizations and really find what interests you, stay busy and always be learning.
