Community Education sports leagues are instructional intramural leagues designed for young athletes to develop skills and learn to play as a team. All teams are coached by volunteer coaches with direction by an experienced WLCSD coach. *Background information, clearance and concussion training is mandatory for all volunteer coaches*.
After School Soccer League
After School Soccer consists of one instructional soccer clinics, weekly after school practices (4:00pm-5:15pm), and Saturday games. This league runs in the Fall and Spring.
**Students may ONLY ATTEND After School Soccer League at their home school**

FAQ
- What equipment does my student need? All athletes will need black athletic shorts, shin guards, cleats (optional), and a water bottle. Team socks are available for purchase when registering. All athletes will receive a jersey.
- When does the league run? Fall and Spring.
- What time are games on Saturday? Games will be one hour long and scheduled between 9:00am-3:00pm at Commerce Elementary.
- What day will my child's team practice? The day of the week for practice will be chosen by the volunteer coach. You will be notified via email of the practice day by 8/26. Practice will start immediately after school and run till 5:15pm.
- What if my student cannot practice on the selected day? You will receive a refund for your registration, minus a $10 administrative drop fee.

Game Cancellation: When games are canceled due to bad weather, unplayable field conditions, or unforeseen circumstances, every attempt will be made to reschedule if circumstances allow. Make up games are not guaranteed. No refund or credit will be given if games cannot be made up.
Coaching FAQ
- What is the coaches clinic? Coaches will receive instructions from WLC Soccer Coach Matt Pace, on how to run practices as well as receive practice soccer balls, cones, pinnies and first aid supplies.
- Paperwork? Background information, clearance and concussion training is mandatory for all volunteer coaches.
- When are practices? Practice will be once per week on your chosen day of the week. Practice will take place immediately after school from 4:00-5:15pm. Coaches MUST arrive at the school by 3:40pm.
- Should I coach? All teams must have a volunteer coach to participate. If a team does NOT have a coach, we will be required to cancel the team and process refunds for all registered students. Volunteer Coaching Coaching is a fun and rewarding experience. Please know that all coaches will be provided the tools and support to have a successful season. Basketball League
WLCE Basketball consists of an instructional basketball clinic, weekly practices (6:30pm start) and Saturday games. Teams will be set up by the WLCE Recreation Dept. Players will be placed on teams using the Team Formation Guidelines.
- 1st - 5th Grade: Fall, Winter, and Spring
- 7th & 8th: Spring
- 6th - 8th Grade: Summer
Little Ballers: 1st & 2nd Grade Co-Ed

- When does the league run? Fall, Winter and Spring. Middle School league during Summer.
- What time are games on Saturday? Games will be one hour long and scheduled between 9:00am-4:00pm at Clifford Smart or Sarah Banks middle school.
- What day will my child's team practice? The day of the week and practice location (WLSCD School) will be chosen by the teams volunteer coach. Practice will start at 6:30pm and last 1-2 hours depending on the age group. This information will be emailed out AFTER the coaches clinic.
- Can my child play Community Ed Soccer and Basketball? Yes! Basketball and Soccer will only overlap one week. We will ensure your student can attend both.
- What if my student cannot practice on the selected day? You will receive a refund for your registration.
- Can I attend practice if I am not coaching? Parents are asked to attend the first practice but are NOT permitted to attend further practice. All adults attending practice are required to have a background check, fingerprints, and concussion training on file with Community Education.
- What equipment does my student need? All athletes will need black athletic shorts, and a water bottle. Athletes will receive a reversible jersey.

- Paperwork? Background check, fingerprints, and concussion training is mandatory for all volunteer coaches. Coaches will be reimbursed for their fingerprint cost.
- When are practices? Practice will be once per week on your chosen day of the week. Practice will take place from 6:30-7:30pm/8:30pm at a Walled Lake elementary school.
- Should I coach? All teams must have a volunteer coach to participate. If a team does NOT have a coach, we will be required to cancel the team and process refunds for all registered students. Spikers Volleyball League
Spikers Volleyball consists of two instructional volleyball clinics, bi-weekly practices and games, and an end of season tournament. Players and volunteer coaches will receive instruction from WLCSD Volleyball Coach’s with demonstrations by local high school players. Teams will be set up by the WLCE Recreation Dept. Players will be placed on teams using the Team Formation Guidelines. This league runs in the Fall, Winter and Spring.

- When are games and practices? Teams meet twice per week for one practice and one game. Practice and games last for 1 hour starting at 5:30pm, 6:30pm, or 7:30pm. Spikers is located at Clifford Smart and Walnut Creek Middle School. Your child’s practice/game location will be determined by their home school.

Teams
These teams participate in community sports leagues which play teams from the surrounding area. Travel is required.
Gladiators Lacrosse
Gladiators Lacrosse is designed for young athletes looking for an introduction to lacrosse. The Gladiators will play other community teams from the Suburban Lacrosse League.

1st-4th Grade
Teams meets three days per week. Teams begin practicing mid March. Games begin late April and end early June with the LAX Jam tournament. Teams will participate in 4-6 'Playdates' which consist of 2 games played on Saturdays.
5th-8th Grade
This program meets three days per week. Teams begin practicing mid March. Games begin mid April and end early June with the LAX Jam tournament.
Big Cat Basketball Team
Big Cat Basketball is a travel basketball league that operates out of South Lyon and Novi schools. Community Ed will host tryouts in order to put together teams to participate. This team is for experienced players looking for advanced competition.
