Seventeen student-athletes will compete at the cross country state finals on Saturday

Walled Lake Northern cross country state qualifiers

Seventeen student-athletes will represent Walled Lake Consolidated Schools on Saturday afternoon at Michigan International Speedway in the MHSAA Division 1 State Championships.

Walled Lake Northern’s boys’ and girls’ teams both qualified after finishing in the Top 3 this past weekend at Regionals. The Knights placed second overall in the girls’ race at regionals earning their fourth-straight trip to the state finals. Maddie Gordon took second overall in the 5,000 meter race with a time of 19:55.7. Gordon and Ava Kurczewski earned All-Region honors and will be joined by Izzy Krause, Emily Alt, Holly Corteville, Allie Gallagher, and Lily Rosender in Brooklyn on Saturday.

The Knights finished third overall in the boys’ race at regionals. Ty Parker took second place with a time of 16:15.9. Parker, Evan Rice, and Lucas Karbel earned All-Region honors and will be joined by Finn Gammerath, Chase Griffith, Sam Fairchild and Nathan Bruss on Saturday in the MHSAA Division 1 State Finals.

Walled Lake Western's Emma Hoffmeyer running in regional championship

Walled Lake Western’s Emma Hoffmeyer and Alisia Olteanu, as well as Walled Lake Central’s Paige Haller also punched their tickets to the state finals as individual qualifiers. Hoffmeyer (3rd – 20:06.8), Olteanu (6th – 20:41.4), and Haller (12th – 21:16.2) all earned All-Region honors after finishing in the Top 15 at regionals.

The MHSAA State Finals are Saturday at Michigan International Speedway. The Division 1 girls’ race is scheduled for 2:10 p.m. and the boys’ race will begin at 3:30 p.m.
