Walled Lake Cobras punch their first ticket to state tournament in program history
The Walled Lake girls’ water polo team is headed to the Michigan Water Polo Association (MWPA) state tournament for the first time in program history.
The Cobras, which are made up of student-athletes from all three Walled Lake high schools and International Academy, punched their ticket over the weekend with a thrilling upset win over Saline-Milan, 4-2.
“I could not be more proud or excited for this group of hard-working athletes to have made program history in qualifying for the state championship,” said head coach Claire Batosic. “Their passion for the sport and dedication to the team all season is what made it possible for them to achieve this accomplishment.”
The Walled Lake Cobras will meet Hudsonville in the MWPA state quarterfinals on Friday, May 31, at the University of Michigan’s Canham Natatorium. The semifinals will then follow later that afternoon with the state championship on Saturday, June 1.
