Teacher of the Year

I teach because of the love I have for each of my students and the honor of being a part of their  journey toward becoming well rounded, healthy young adults. I teach because my students inspire me to be better each day. I teach for the excitement I see in my student's faces as they enter the gym like it's a magical place. But most importantly, I teach because I get to make a difference.

I teach because I want to build lasting, healthy and impactful relationships with my students. A large part of why I went into education is because I, myself, had teachers who were positive adult influences and role models. I want to be that person for my students, both in and out of the classroom. Every student deserves a champion, and my goal is that they feel completely supported knowing that there is an adult who believes in them, and will encourage their potential, never giving up on them despite their challenges.

I am currently in my thirty-fourth year of teaching. So many thing have changed over that time span. What has, however, remained consistent are the opportunities to assist students see their potential and self-worth. To help students realize that they have the power to change their lives. These are the aspects of our profession that got me hooked and are that continue to drive me to provide an experience for each of my students that will help them realize their purpose.

My goal as an educator is not to focus on being a great teacher but rather to help students focus on and learn how to be great humans. Watching my students discover their strengths, work on improving weakness and persevere through challenging times continues to strengthen my love for the profession of teaching.
