Welcome to the Walled Lake family!

Our Mission, in partnership with parents and community, is to become the best educational system in America so all students demonstrate they are caring, responsible and knowledgeable citizens.

Please review the Criteria for Enrollment and gather all documentation that will be needed to successfully enroll your child(ren).

We are only currently accepting enrollments for the 2024-25 school year, as well as junior kindergarten and kindergarten for 2025-26. Enrollment for the 2025-26 opens on March 10, 2025 for Grades 1-12.

The state of Michigan requires a child must be 5 years old on or before December 1 with no exceptions. If your child was born after September 1 but before December 1, you will need to sign a waiver for your child to attend junior kindergarten or kindergarten.

The state of Michigan requires that all junior kindergarten and kindergarten students must have a dental, hearing and vision screenings in order to attend school. If you do not have them at the time of enrollment, we will temporarily enroll your student. The dental, vision and hearing screenings must be turned into your child's elementary school no later than the the first day of school in August.

Please remain patient while we work through the finalization of your student's enrollment as there may be requests via email to provide additional information. Please be sure to check your email frequently to expedite the completion of your child(ren)'s enrollment.

Once your enrollment is complete, you will receive a confirmation email and instructions on how to enroll in Skyward Family Access. If you have questions regarding your child’s schedule, teachers or upcoming events, please visit your school’s website or call your child’s school directly.

Please note: If you live within the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools' boundaries, you are guaranteed a seat in your attendance area.

My child is not due to have his/her immunizations updated until the summer. Should I wait until then to enroll?

No, don’t wait.

My child has not had their vision screening or hearing tested yet. Should I wait to enroll?

No, don’t wait. It is Michigan law that every kindergartner has a vision screening and a hearing test before they can start school. You may turn that proof in at your child’s school before school starts.

After I complete the pre-enrollment online registration process, will the enrollment office contact me?

Yes, you will received a confirmation of enrollment email as soon as your enrollment has been processed. Please be patient. This may take a few weeks during the summer months.

What if I do not have the required documents?

What if I can’t find my child’s original birth certificate?

We will accept a copy of the original birth certificate. It is recommended that you still get an original certified copy, which you may need for other reasons at a later date. You can go to the county of your child’s birth or order a replacement certified birth certificate online.

Will you accept a Baptismal Certificate or Hospital Certificate as the birth record?

No, we need the child's birth certificate.

How old does my child have to be to enroll in kindergarten?

Incoming kindergartners must be at least five years of age on or before September 1. The only exception, according to Michigan Law, is a child may be enrolled in kindergarten if he/she is not five years of age on September 1 but will be five years of age no later than December 1 and parent or legal guardian notifies the school district in writing (Kindergarten Waiver Form) that he or she intends to enroll the child in kindergarten.

My child will be five before September 1. Do I need to complete a kindergarten waiver?

No, you only need to complete a kindergarten waiver if your child turns five years old September 2 thru December 1.

Can I sign a kindergarten waiver if my child is turning five after December 1?

No, December 1 is the cut-off date.

Is there a deadline to complete the kindergarten waiver?

No, there is no deadline to complete the kindergarten waiver.

What happens if I wait until summer to enroll?

Adequate staffing is a complicated process. In order for us to be appropriately prepared for your child, it is important to enroll as early as possible.
